Market Manager Job Description
The Lansdowne Farmers Market Committee is seeking to hire a Market Manager to oversee a seasonal market. The Farmers Market will run from May 24 to October 25, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Market Manager is required to be on site from 7:30 am to approximately 2 pm to set up and break down the market. An additional hour or two a week of vendor contact, volunteer coordination, and relevant meeting attendance will typically also be required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a resident of Lansdowne or a nearby town who is friendly, outgoing, organized, and proactive. Experience coordinating people or events and handling money is a plus.
Responsibilities
1. Work closely with and support Farmers Market Committee to successfully open and manage the market for 2008, including attending organizational meetings as requested.
2. Work closely with and support Farmers Market Committee on maintaining lists and records of existing and potential vendors.
3. Work closely with and support Farmers Market Committee on managing budget, including both expenses and revenues, including collection of vendor fees per the approved schedule. Also, ensure that the vendor fee are successfully recorded and given to the proper committee member at the end of each market.
4. Communicate weekly with coordinators of Artist, Musician, and Business for the Week to ensure that they have confirmed their booths and that you know who and what to expect (eg, special electrical requirements).
5. Coordinate Market volunteers by email or phone to ensure that there is sufficient assistance each week for setup and breakdown.
6. Set up, breakdown down, and deliver to storage all Market-owned material, including booths, signs, banners, trash cans, helium and balloons, and literature.
7. Run electrical cords as needed and monitor use.
8. Work with Borough officials, including police, health dept and code enforcement, as needed with regard to Market issues.
9. Reserve assigned space for growers and reassign space in the event of absences or late arrivals.
10. Monitor the customer parking situation and resolve conflicts that may arise.
11. Keep a brief log of market events.
12. Resolve minor disputes or problems related to vendors and customers.
13. Understand and convey the Farmers Market philosophy to vendors and customers.
14. Greet customers, distribute balloons and Market-approved literature, and encourage people to sign up for e-newsletter.
15. Enforce market rules and report alleged violations, per established regulations.
